THE BASICS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a focus on Industrial, Metallurgy, Material, or Information Systems is preferred. Alternatively, a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent work experience
  • Five years of steel producing or steel processing experience in quality assurance, customer technical service, product development and/or manufacturing
  • Direct leadership experience or proven success with project execution
  • Knowledge of hot rolling & pickling processes and pipe & tube applications, and specifications
  • Knowledge of quality systems and processes, IATF and ISO standards
  • Knowledge of steel transportation modes such as truck, rail, and barge
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products
  • Basic understanding of upstream steelmaking process
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Capacity to work autonomously

 

THE EXTRAS

  • MES knowledge and experience necessary
  • SAP, IBA and Power BI knowledge and experience preferred
  • Software proficiency with SQL (or other query formats), statistical tools, and data analysis
  • Understand fundamentals of TOMIS database system
  • IATF certified auditor

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Lead investigating rejections, reprocessing, customer claims and coordinates corrective actions
  • Review and assess materials held by inspectors, automated systems, tech reps, and outside processors
  • Help refine inspection practices and standards
  • Support improved defect detection and classification in vision inspection systems
  • Communicate quality performance to production teams
  • Conduct quality training for team members across the mill
  • Collaborate with operations to identify and resolve defective material sources
  • Report and track quality performance and unsatisfactory operating conditions
  • Participate in quality audits and certification processes
  • Interface with Customer Technical Services on product performance issues
  • Communicate customer expectations to manufacturing operations
  • Travel to customer facilities on short notice to address quality concerns
  • Coordinate problem resolution with all departments
  • Implement changes to improve quality and performance across all departments
  • Set performance objectives with team members and provide feedback
  • Assess developmental needs for team members or departments

YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Office and Industrial setting
  • Regular exposure to conditions in the mill including, climbing, heat and dust
  • Gulf coast region in Calvert, AL
  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
  • May require up to 10% travel
